About me.

Jesse Kriss has been building software for humans professionally since 1997. His work has spanned full stack web engineering, user centered design, information visualization, information security, infrastructure, technical leadership, and people management at companies from 3 to 300,000 people, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM Research, Figure 53, the Obama 2012 Tech Team, NASA/JPL, Netflix, and Watershed. His coaching and advising work includes 8 years of advising graduate student thesis projects at ArtCenter’s Media Design Practices MFA program, formal and informal mentoring in his role as a senior and staff engineer, and a number of private coaching clients.

While he built a career creating new systems and technologies to solve real world problems, Jesse now focuses just as much on supporting people directly in their growth and fulfillment, understanding that this kind of impact is at least as important as well-designed technology. Sometimes an hour spent in conversation with someone, with attention and care and expertise, can do more good in the world than months of design and engineering work.

Jesse holds a BA in Music from Carleton College, a Masters of Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon, and is a Professional Certified Coach through New Ventures West.

His work has won NASA’s Software of the Year award, IEEE VIS’s Test of Time Award, and a presidential election.

Testimonials

“I worked with Jesse at Netflix, and then when we started Resourcely, we brought him on from day one to help us design the product. Jesse is one of the most creative people I have ever met. He has an excellent eye for design and usability. Features that Jesse designed are superweapons for us. We are so fortunate to have worked with him!”

“For over five years, I had the privilege of collaborating closely with Jesse at Netflix. In his pivotal role, he didn’t just pioneer user-focused security principles; he reshaped products and teams, inspired businesses, and drove transformative shifts in the industry. His brilliance in design, security, engineering, and usability is unparalleled, and his humanity is evident in his work and approach. Beyond being a visionary in his field, he has profoundly inspired me. The experience of working alongside him was nothing short of an honor.”
