I work with people who want to reach new levels of fulfillment in their personal and professional lives.
This might mean navigating a tricky transition, getting past some kind of frustrating block, seeing and creating new opportunities, building a better understanding of your own dreams and calling, or just getting unstuck in some dimension.
We all have unique gifts and challenges. Some things are hard for us, and some are easy. And we hit the limits of our own accumulated patterns and coping strategies all the time.
Through deep attention, focused discussion, and new practices and reflections, I work with my clients to achieve their goals–often both the goals they have at the beginning and the deeper goals that emerge through our work together. My coaching is not about giving advice or telling you what to do, but rather working to understand you as an individual and creating exactly the program that will be effective for you, at this time in your life.
I am drawn to people who have curiosity and passion, but feel like something is holding them back and making their path difficult or unclear. It doesn’t matter to me if you work in tech or not. If you do, though, I can relate to your work context, and we can probably skip a lot of background and get right to the things that matter most to you.
How does it work? All coaching engagements start with a free 30-minute introductory call where we can get to know each other a little bit, talk about the process, and see if we are a good fit for each other.
Following that, we can choose to move forward with one of two options:
Professional coaching discounts may be available depending on circumstances.
Need an expert eye and an outside opinion on something you’re building? From technology choices for startups, to advice on security and infrastructure practices for growing companies, to guidance on user-focused security tools, I can offer a lot in a single call.
Sometimes longer term advising is more useful. Maybe you’re iterating on a new product or approach, and you want an outside advisor along the way who can cover design feedback, talk through implementation challenges, and bring a product mindset to your work.
My speciality is early stage companies that are forging a new path and doing things on their own terms, potentially with big questions about direction, technology, and user experience. I like the challenge of solving problems at the edges and intersections, and I enjoy helping companies that are working on making positive change in the world. But if your idea doesn’t totally fit this description, don’t be deterred! I like projects that are unusual and offbeat, and not everything fits the standard mold.
Why Finite Factory? I’ve built a lot of groundbreaking tools and systems over the last 25 years or so, applying my design, engineering, and security skills across many domains: a public information visualization website for IBM Research, tools for artists and performers at Figure 53, first-of-a-kind campaign volunteer and voter protection systems for the Obama 2012 presidential campaign, augmented reality systems for space exploration at NASA/JPL, pioneering user-respecting security tools at Netflix, and I built a security program from the ground up at Watershed that grew to encompass IT and Infrastructure.
But more important than my specific experiences, I synthesize information quickly, keep tabs on new technology and approaches, see connections, know what questions to ask, and help focus ideas. I can pull from all of my skills and experience to bring a lot of value in a short amount of time.
How does it work? Take your pick of the following options:
The world needs art and commentary of all kinds: questions, conundrums, critical takes on the status quo. I love a try-and-see prototype; reach out if you want tech advice or have an idea for a collaboration.
